March 27, 2009 - The United Kennel Club, Inc. proudly announced today a new program, UKC Activity Rewards Program, to encourage the Total Dog Philosophy and to reward the owners who make this philosophy their goal.
“The UKC understands how much time and resources our customers put into their dogs and wanted to find a way to reward them for their contributions to a more versatile and vibrant gene pool. We continue to encourage breeders and owners to strive for titles in multiple event areas to emphasize the great success of our UKC Total Dog philosophy. This UKC approach keeps our events, breeders, and owners focused on dogs that do far more than just look the part." ~UKC President Wayne Cavanaugh.
“We believe that everyone wins when breeders set goals of producing more well-rounded dogs. We know that the people who originally created these breeds had more than appearance in mind. When breeding programs are based on dogs that are tested in both the show ring and in the woods, or for obedience and agility for example, selection must be based on healthy athletic stock. This Total Dog philosophy is a salute to those who created these breeds in the past while remaining focused on the long-term future of our dogs." ~ Mark Threlfall, UKC Executive VP.
